The “Tegnùe” of Bibione:
a hidden treasure
beneath the sea
Between the waters that separate Bibione and Caorle lies a surprising underwater world: the tegnùe — natural rocky formations that host fish, sponges, crustaceans, and an extraordinary variety of marine life.
Their name comes from the Venetian dialect word “tenute” or “trattenute”, meaning “held” or “caught,” because fishing nets often got tangled in these rocks rich in biodiversity.
Today, the Tegnùe are considered real “islands of life” in our Adriatic Sea and are at the heart of an important conservation project.
The Veneto Region is currently working on the creation of the Bibione Marine Park, a protected area of about 50 hectares aimed at encouraging natural repopulation and enhancing this unique marine ecosystem.
🐠 An opportunity to protect nature and discover a new side of the Bibione sea — more authentic, sustainable, and full of life.
